An innovative alternative to traditional skylights, illume uses solar-powered technology to recreate the feel of natural ambient light inside your home.
At just 10mm thick, it can be installed on virtually any level without roof penetrations, eliminating the risk of leaks and minimising maintenance. The system responds naturally to changing sunlight throughout the day, creating brighter or softer light as conditions change.
Available in multiple sizes and configurations, illume is a simple, non-disruptive way to bring a natural light feel into darker areas of your home.
How it works
illume is an Australian-made, solar-powered skylight alternative. Your illume will fade out as the sun goes down, however you have the option to use your illume at night. The AC Driver accessory will connect your illume to mains power for night use.
Installation
illume™ requires no specialist tools or trade skills. Simply mount the solar collector on the roof, cut out the templated hole in the ceiling plaster, connect the cable and you’re done!

No heat transfer
Unlike a traditional skylight, room temperature is not compromised by a shaft breaking the integrity of insulation against external conditions. It means that an illume fitted space will retain heat in winter and repel heat in summer more efficiently than a shafted skylight system would thereby further adding to utility cost savings.
No leaks
Fitting an illume requires no modification to the roof structure. With all roof materials remaining intact, there is no opportunity for water to pool or trickle down through the light diffuser.
Environmentally Friendly
Illume is entirely powered by solar energy with no mains power or batteries required. Just like a traditional skylight, illume brightens your space during the day reflecting external light conditions and sustainably reducing utility energy costs.

Yes. illume carries the official green and gold Australian Made kangaroo, and the panels are manufactured at the company’s head office in Dandenong South, Victoria.
For the flush, built-in look, yes. Most premium sizes are also available as a surface mount, which fixes the panel to the ceiling rather than recessing it into it. It is worth deciding early, because a unit cannot be changed from one to the other once it has been supplied.
The panel body is only 10mm front to back, roughly the same as your plasterboard. That means it can go almost anywhere on the ceiling without having to work around beams or battens behind it.
Your illume fades out as the sun goes down, but night use is an option. The AC Driver accessory connects the panel to mains power. There is no battery option, as a roof cavity can get too hot for one.
Much like a traditional skylight, your illume will not be at full brightness on a heavily overcast day. Provided the unit has been sized correctly for the room, it will still give you usable natural light.
Yes. The panel is IC4 rated, so insulation can safely be reinstated over the back of it and your ceiling stays properly protected from the weather.
The illume Remote Dimmer Switch Kit lets you soften the light, or switch the panel on and off whenever you like.
You can expect roughly 15 years from the illume panel itself, and around 20 years from the solar collector.
